It may have been inevitable that Irving would leave Cleveland just to search for a different adventure, but much of the divorce seemed to stem from bad communication. Here was a player who reportedly felt like “the kid” in LeBron James’ court to the point that he lashed out after being asked to play faster to get shots for his teammates. Truth be told, cases like Irving’s are closer to the norm in professional sports. It’s Popovich’s honesty, compassion, and respect for his players that’s abnormal. It is hard to really listen to someone else voice their problems, especially when those problems are directed at you. It’s even harder to accept that you may be at fault.

It’s a reality that is contrary to the perception of him as a disciplinarian, a view that's quickly assumed from his military background and the boring nature of his teams.

Wojnarowski also reports that “frayed relationships in the organization” and “general non-alignment” contributed to Kidd’s firing. While those are vague, they are certainly legitimate reasons that contributed in some manner. If Milwaukee was making a stronger playoff push, they definitely might have been overlooked.
